SKD Gorkha, born Kishan Sonar (born 1998), is an Indian singer, instrumentalist, and social worker from Jagun Tinisuti village in Tinsukia district, Assam—a culturally significant region known as the birthplace of legendary artist Bhupen Hazarika. He gained recognition through his participation in the Indian reality television show India’s Talent Fight (ITF).
Early Life and Background
Kishan Sonar was born and raised in a humble Gorkha family in Assam. From an early age, he displayed a natural inclination towards music, especially singing and playing musical instruments. Remarkably, he is a self-taught musician, having never received any formal music training.
Coming from a small village, Kishan’s journey to national recognition was supported strongly by his family and community. His younger brother, Akash Gurung, played a pivotal role in enabling his travel to Roorkee for the ITF auditions by offering financial support. Kishan is also an active member of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), where he is involved in social work and community service in the Tinsukia district, particularly focusing on helping the underprivileged.
