Sukhbir Singh — Kashmir’s First Male Sikh Singer from Karnah, Kupwara 🇮🇳
Sukhbir Singh is a talented lyricist, singer, and composer from Tarboni, the last Sikh village of Karnah Tehsil, Kupwara district, Kashmir, just 5 km from the Pakistan border. Belonging to a small but resilient Sikh community, Sukhbir chose music as his path to showcase his village, culture, and hometown to the world.
I have supportive parents, my father is in the police, his name is Ranjeet Singh and my mother’s name is Ranjeet Kour. Apart from parents I have one little sister and little brother.
After completing his 12th class in 2020, he began his musical journey with original songs like “Better Together,” “Dreamy Duo,” and “Feeling Love”, along with soulful unplugged covers. His influences include legends such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Satinder Sartaj, Bir Singh, Amrinder Gill, Gurdas Maan, Master Saleem, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Sukhbir has also participated in India’s Talent Fight, showcasing his versatility in Sufi and folk music, and has shared his story through podcasts and interviews. His goal is to take Kashmiri folk and Sikh music to a global stage, becoming a voice for his community and heritage.
From the remote borders of Kashmir to the world’s stage, Sukhbir Singh is a shining example of passion, perseverance, and pride in one’s roots.
