Born and raised in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, Tannu has made a mark in the field of Indian music through her dedication, formal training, and family-inspired passion.
Early Life and Education
Tannu Priya holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com Hons) degree and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Music. She has earned triple diplomas in Indian classical music — a Diploma in Vocal Classical, a Diploma in Instrumental Music (Harmonium), and a Diploma in Sitar. Her academic excellence in music was recognized when she became a double district topper in 2022 in both classical and folk music.
Her musical journey began in childhood when her father brought her a Casio keyboard from a pilgrimage to Amarnath. This simple gesture sparked her interest in music and set her on a path of formal training. She soon came under the guidance of her music guru, Mr. Akash Jha, who mentored her in Indian classical music, including vocal, harmonium, tabla, sitar, and guitar.

Tannu’s journey in music has been inspired by her family’s deep-rooted love for the art. Her grandfather, though unable to pursue music professionally, held a great admiration for it and passed on that passion through generations. Her father, who also cherished the dream of learning music, found his aspirations revived and carried forward by his daughter. Tannu has described this intergenerational dream as a key motivator in her pursuit of music.
Throughout her academic life, Tannu actively participated in numerous music competitions and cultural programs at school, college, and public venues including Swami Vivekananda Ashram and other government-organized events.
